Ruger SR9 pistol is a most recent product of the famous US arms-making company Sturm, Ruger & Co. It was introduced to the public in October, 2007, and is already available on US civilian market. Ruger SR9 pistol is intended for civilian shooters (as a sporting or defensive arm, suitable for concealed carry) as well as for police and security use. SR9 is well suited for all those applications, providing adequate power, accuracy and large magazine capacity for duty use, yet slim and light enough for everyday concealed carry. 

Ruger SR9 pistol is short-recoil operated, locked breech semiautomatic that uses modified Browning-type locking with tipping barrel. barrel locks into slide by single large lug that engages ejection window; locking and unlocking is controlled by the cam-shaped projection below the barrel chamber. Trigger is of double-action only type, striker-fired. Striker is partially cocked during the reloading cycle; full cocking is achieved by the pull on the trigger. Gun is provided with automated firing pin block safety; an ambidextrous manual safety is provided on the frame. When engaged (lever pushed up), manual safety blocks the slide and trigger. Do disengage safety, lever must be pushed down. Additional safety devices include loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide, and a magazine safety disconnector, which blocks the firing once magazine is removed. According to available information, the magazine safety can be easily removed by the user through the partial disassembly of the gun and removal of the safety parts (although this may not be encouraged by user manual). Slide and barrel of the gun are made from stainless steel; frame is made from impact-resistant polymer. The pistol grip is equipped with removable reversible backstrap, which has one side shaped to provide curved rear grip shape, and another to provide flat shape. Magazines are double stack, holding 17 rounds of 9m ammunition. Magazine release button is ambidextrous and conveniently located at the base of the triggerguard. Sights are dovetailed to the slide, with rear sight being adjustable. Front part of the frame, below the barrel, is shaped to provide integral Picatinny rail for accessories such as laser pointers or flashlights.
